Dolor y rabia: The passionate politics of women’s activism in Vieques, Puerto Rico

چکیده
Based on ethnography conducted during the height of anti-military struggle in Vieques, Puerto Rico, early 2000s, this article examines Viequense women’s intense forms suffering and correspondingly powerful collective action. It explores how affective dimensions Vieques dolor (suffering) rabia (indignation) became catalysts for their politicization. The posits that gendered intersubjective experience confronting illness a physical landscape devasted by military pollution can impel women to pose new questions ideas regarding disease etiology. This questioning, turn, has potential rearticulate identities political terms. At intersections ecology, medical anthropology, environmental justice, concludes ubiquity y own families’ bodies, found strength fight back against most world.
